Punishment for online defamation in China

China has determined a punishment for online defamation: it is three years in prison for 500 reposts.

The author of a message, which has been reposted more than 500 times or viewed more than 5 thousand times is subject to a three-year imprisonment. The government of China has adopted new rules, under which on-line defamation and spreading of rumors is subject to real prison sentence.
